And then God said....

....that I SHALL GRADUATE ON TIME!!!!! WOO!

In other words, I passed math. With a C-. I haven't had a C- in math since high school. Hot damn, life just started to rock. Because I don't have to commit ritual suicide now rather than tell my parents I won't be graduating.

BECAUSE I WILL BE.

And now I will never have to look at algebra again.

Unless you ever have to teach a class. Because figuring out grades requires algebra. (Unfortunate, but true.)

For serious? You're kidding.

Also, I am never becoming a teacher. Never never never.

I set up an Excel spreadsheet to calculate all my grades for me when I input them; setting up said spreadsheet required rudimentary algebra.

On the plus side, using algebra again makes me feel smart. It shouldn't, but it does.

Studying Medieval Lit and plays doesn't make you feel smart, but using rudimentary algebra does?

...that kind of makes sense, actually. I feel even prouder of that C- than I did of making distinction on my senior project.

Technically I no longer study medieval lit – I'm a Renaissance man now. (Sigh.)

Plus doing basic algebra solves a problem and there's no debating whether you succeeded or not. That's worth a fair bit.

Oh no! Not - *gasp* - the Renaissance! HOW do you survive?

Why the change? I thought you adored Medieval lit?

I do and I'll never truly abandon it. But my program is a trifle more modern so instead of living in the Middle Ages, I have to make a few compromises and read 16th and 17th century literature. There're perks – the 1600s gave us Paradise Lost and the Restoration wits, for example, plus I suppose there's that guy Shakespeare everyone keeps telling me about.

I wasn't quite sure as I came to grad school whether I wanted to focus on the medieval or on the Early Modern/Restoration period(s). They're both really nifty, just in different ways. Where I wound up for my MA has sort of settled that question for me.
